​Murchison is the gateway to the southern entrance to Kahurangi National Park, New Zealand’s second biggest park at 452,002 ha. The multitude of rivers in the area makes Murchison a white water playground and an angler’s paradise.
Walks in the area range from 20 minutes to several days in duration.

Old Ghost Road

​Murchison is the closest hub to the Lyell end of the Old Ghost Road and the perfect start or end point to your trek or cycle. The Old Ghost Road is a long-forgotten gold miners’ road that is being revived as a mountain biking and tramping trail – connecting the old dray road in the Lyell (Upper Buller Gorge) to the mighty Mokihinui River in the north.

Yoga

Hatha yoga classes which include stretching, breathing, relaxation, meditation, and dynamic/flowing movement. Weekly classes are held in a beautiful, spacious room at the Murchison Recreation Centre.  This is tranquil setting with a friendly and welcoming group of students, and visitors to Murchison are most welcome to attend. Please bring a mat, blanket, and cushion to class (a few spare ones are available).
